2027: Four Years Enough To Make Impact~ Peter Obi Insists
Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his pledge to serve only one term if elected president. In a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, the former Anambra State governor insisted that four years is enough to transform Nigeria, provided the leadership is focused on genuine service rather than personal ambition. Obi expressed surprise over the controversy his one-term promise has stirred, stating that any sincere leader can drive meaningful change within a single four-year term. He emphasized that his ambition is fueled by a desire to make Nigeria work—not by personal gain. Obi also urged the public to scrutinize his past political campaigns, asserting that he has never engaged in electoral malpractice, violence, or ballot box snatching. He said: “I still find it baffling that my decision to do a term of four years, if given the mandate to rule this country, is generating so much agitation. By this feeling, we are doubting the fact that a sincere leader can achieve much in 48 months. “I have never been desperate in the pursuit of power, or anything else, for that matter. There are some traits associated with desperation, which in no way are in any of my political behaviours in the past and now, like engaging in overly aggressive rhetoric or actions to prove a point or gain attention; becoming overly defensive or reactive to criticism, often to the point of appearing paranoid. “Making unrealistic or unfulfillable promises to win support or approval, resorting to personal attacks or character assassination to discredit opponents, or frequently changing positions or policies to suit immediate political needs. “Throughout my political journey, I have never been involved in thuggery, the snatching of ballot boxes, or any form of electoral malpractice. I challenge anyone: conduct your investigations. You will find no stains of rigging or violence associated with my name. I have always chosen the path of peace, principle, and civility. “In four years, we can confront corruption head-on, redirecting resources to priority areas. For instance, the trillions used to acquire new presidential jets and other unnecessary expenses at this time could have been channelled into education, healthcare, or infrastructure. “Within the same period, we ensure that the rule is sacrosanct and the rule of law is strictly followed. Within the same period, we can conduct free, fair, and credible elections.”

Wike’s Allies Emerge Chairmanship, Councillorship Candidates For Rivers LG Polls
Several allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have secured chairmanship and councillorship tickets ahead of the August 30, 2025, local government elections in Rivers State. Political parties conducted their primaries across different centres in the state on Saturday, following the release of election guidelines by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). Candidates emerged on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) through various modes, including indirect primaries, direct primaries, and consensus arrangements. Among those who clinched chairmanship tickets are Dr Chidi Lloyd (Emuoha LG), Dr Thomas Bariere (Khana LG), and Confidence Dekor (Gokana LG). Others include Mbakpone Okpe (Tai LG), Akuro Tobins (Okrika LG), Allwell Ihunda (Port Harcourt City LG), and Onengiyeofori George (Asari-Toru LG). Our correspondent gathered that all of the above-named individuals previously served as elected local government chairmen during Wike’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State. Other selected candidates include Shedrack Chukwu (Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LG), Uchechukwu Obasi (Omuma LG), Michael Williams (Degema LG), Okechukwu Akara (Oyigbo LG), and Abinye Pepple (Bonny LG). Vincent Nemioboka also emerged for Ogu/Bolo LG, while Chima Njoku secured the ticket for Etche LG—both considered loyalists of Wike. However, candidates for about eight local government areas are yet to be confirmed. In Ikwerre Local Government Area, Charles Wobodo emerged as the APC chairmanship candidate after polling 64 out of 65 votes in the party’s primary election.

2027: Otuaro Warns Ex~Agitators Against Political Manipulation
The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Otuaro, has issued a strong warning to ex-agitators in the Niger Delta, urging them to reject overtures from desperate politicians seeking to destabilise the region ahead of the 2027 general elections. Dr. Otuaro made this appeal at the close of a three-day Strategic Leadership, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Mediation Training organised by PAP in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre. The training, held in Abuja from July 30 to August 1, 2025, targeted stakeholders and beneficiaries of the amnesty programme. Speaking during the certificate presentation ceremony and a reception held at the PAP headquarters, Otuaro cautioned ex-agitators not to be deceived by political actors using propaganda to instigate unrest and pit them against the Federal Government. “There is no justification for anyone to destabilise the region,” Otuaro said. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated genuine commitment to the development and empowerment of the Niger Delta through strategic appointments and expansion of the programme’s budget.” He noted that the President’s support has enabled PAP to extend its human capital development and reintegration initiatives, reaching more beneficiaries than ever before. According to him, this level of inclusion and commitment from the Federal Government is unprecedented and must be reciprocated with unity and loyalty. “Let no one be used by selfish politicians. We must remain focused on peace, stability, and development. Any call for confrontation is not only misplaced but dangerous to our progress,” Otuaro added. He praised the President and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their consistent backing of the programme and encouraged community leaders and traditional rulers to continue sensitising the youths against being used as political pawns. Reaffirming his dedication to the goals of the PAP, Dr. Otuaro stressed that the programme remains a critical platform for sustainable peace, human empowerment, and regional growth.

I’ll Serve Only One Term Of Four Years If Elected President~  Obi Insists
Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has reaffirmed his pledge to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027. In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Obi described the promise as "sacrosanct," emphasizing that it reflects his dedication to purposeful and accountable leadership. “I will serve only one term of four years if elected President. And that vow is sacrosanct,” Obi stated. Citing examples of globally respected leaders who served brief yet impactful terms, Obi referenced former U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, as well as South Africa’s Nelson Mandela. “One of the greatest American Presidents, Abraham Lincoln, served only four years, yet his legacy endures… Mandela chose to serve only one term… His decision was a deliberate act of leadership,” Obi said. Acknowledging widespread distrust in Nigeria’s political class, Obi said many Nigerians no longer take politicians at their word. “But even in this climate of cynicism, there are still a few whose actions have matched their words — whose integrity is built on verifiable precedent,” he argued. He addressed skepticism over his one-term vow, saying: Recently, I became aware of two statements aimed, albeit indirectly, at my vow to serve only a single four-year term. One person remarked that even if I swore by a shrine, I still wouldn’t be believed. Another suggested that anyone talking about doing only one term should undergo psychiatric evaluation. Obi defended his record, recalling his time as Anambra State Governor. “I fulfilled each of those promises without deviation… My word is my bond.” “Forty-eight months is enough for any leader who is focused and prepared to make a meaningful difference,” he added.

2027: ADC Will Produce Candidate Who’ll Unseat Tinubu~ Melaye
Former Kogi lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has announced that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is preparing to field a strong candidate capable of unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. During an appearance on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Friday, Melaye stated that the ADC is focused on strengthening its internal structure to offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “Those of us in the ADC need to create a comfortable, stable platform. And I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said. He emphasised that the immediate priority is strengthening the party’s internal framework and ensuring a transparent process for selecting its presidential flagbearer. “I will not be talking about a presidential candidate or aspirant or preference for anybody until we get the party completely stabilised and organise a transparent convention that will produce a presidential candidate of the ADC who, by the grace of God, will kick,” Melaye added. Describing the ADC as a moral movement rather than just a political platform, Melaye likened it to a spiritual call to action. “Why Nigerians should think differently about the ADC is that once there’s an altar call in the church of God — only those who are emotionally affected, have conscience, and are ready to leave darkness and move into light respond. So, ADC is a national altar call,” he said.

GCFR, GCON Honours Should Be For Entreprenuers, Not Politicians~ Obi
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has criticized the Federal Government for consistently awarding national honours to politicians, urging instead that such recognition be reserved for individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the country’s development. Obi made this call on Thursday in Abuja during the public presentation of *The Chronicles of a Legend*, a biography of renowned businessman and philanthropist, Gabriel Igbinedion. He emphasized the need to reassess the criteria for conferring national awards. “The Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, and Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, should be for entrepreneurs and productive people, not politicians,” Obi said. “We have to change the way we honour people.” He commended Igbinedion for his impact in key sectors such as aviation, education, and cultural preservation, insisting that individuals like him are more deserving of national honours and greater public recognition. “We live in a country where we celebrate people who are supposed not to be celebrated. If we did, the celebration we are giving him today would have been more,” Obi said. He also highlighted Igbinedion’s role in job creation, noting the businessman’s vast contribution to employment. “If we had been a country that was productive, over 20 million Nigerians would have been employed because Igbinedion employed over 17,000 Nigerians,” the former Anambra State governor said.
