INEC Unveils 2025 2026 Election Timetable, Resumes Voter Registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a detailed electoral timetable covering 2025 and 2026, which includes five major elections and the nationwide restart of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Tuesday during the commission’s second quarterly consultative meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja. In a statement posted on its official X handle, the electoral body noted that it is preparing for an intensive period marked by several key elections across different states. In the statement, the INEC Chairman said, “The five major elections highlighted in the new timetable include bye-elections in 12 states, slated for August 16, 2025, followed by the Anambra State Governorship election on November 8, 2025. Looking into 2026, the schedule includes Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 21, 2026, the Ekiti State Governorship election on June 20, 2026, and the Osun State Governorship election on August 8, 2026.” Yakubu also announced the nationwide resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise. “Online pre-registration will commence on August 18, 2025, followed by in-person registration across the country from August 25, 2025. For Anambra State, ahead of its governorship election, the CVR will begin earlier, next week, and will be conducted simultaneously in all 326 wards to ensure the compilation of a new voters’ register at least 90 days before the election, as required by law”, he said. During the meeting, Yakubu welcomed two newly appointed National Commissioners, Professor Sunday Aja and Abdulrazak Yusuf, as well as six recently sworn-in RECs attending the meeting for the first time. He emphasised the critical role of RECs in election management, urging them to proactively implement policy and procedural issues without constant prompting from the Headquarters. Addressing concerns regarding the interpretation of Section 65 of the Electoral Act 2022 on the review of election results, the INEC Chairman stated that the Commission is working on a supplementary regulation and guidelines to provide clarity. He assured that this document would be uploaded to INEC’s official platforms for public information as early as this week. “I wish to remind you that your work does not begin as the General Election approaches. You are full-time Commissioners,” Professor Yakubu remarked, underscoring the continuous nature of electoral duties and the need for sustained commitment from all officials. “You can only effectively discharge your responsibilities when you are knowledgeable and committed”, he said. The meeting, which followed extensive consultations with political parties, civil society organisations, the media, and election security agencies, aimed to address key issues arising from these engagements and strategise for improved electoral service delivery across Nigeria.

PDP Govs Being Harassed, Humiliated To Join APC~ Ologbondiyan
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has alleged that certain PDP governors are under pressure to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ologbondiyan made the claim shortly after a meeting involving President Bola Tinubu, the suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He rejected suggestions that the internal crisis rocking the PDP is the primary reason for defections, maintaining instead that several members are being intimidated into leaving the party. He stated, “Talking about the Rivers situation, I will be honest. I think that the PDP did all it could, some on a negative side, others on a positive side. I think the takeaway for the People’s Democratic Party in this matter is that its governors are being harassed. “They are being humiliated and whether they can openly say it or not, they are being forced to abandon their party and join the All Progressive Congress and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political party.” Ologbondiyan acknowledged that Tinubu stepping in to settle the rift between Wike and Fubara was a political win for the APC and a loss for the PDP. He advised the PDP to move on from the crisis in Rivers State and focus on protecting the loyalty of its governors

PDP Fully United, No Factions Or Coalitions~ Bala Mohammed
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has asserted that the PDP remains united, rejecting claims of factions, coalitions, or internal discord within the party. Addressing the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, Mohammed reiterated the PDP’s commitment to staying a strong force in Nigeria’s political arena, emphasizing its dedication to providing good governance and rebuilding public trust. “This is a miracle of the PDP, the party that has history, pedigree, and the human capital to deliver Nigeria. We have been engrossed in controversies and challenges, not created by us, but created for us. Yet, we have been navigating them successfully, unlike the other parties,” Mohammed said. He praised the National Working Committee (NWC) for its efforts in resolving internal disagreements and strengthening party unity, noting that visible signs of discord had been addressed in recent weeks. “The NWC has collapsed all differences and wranglings. They met before this meeting. What you’ve been seeing in terms of press releases and counter-statements has stopped, and you will not see them again,” he said. Mohammed also acknowledged the role of the Board of Trustees (BoT), National Assembly caucuses, and state chapters in keeping the party united and effective, particularly at the grassroots level. “There is no element of wrangling in the state chapters. And that is where our strengths lie. We thank you, our state chairmen, for keeping the party alive, often with limited resources, and ensuring that PDP remains intact and functional,” he noted. Dismissing recent media reports of defections and internal rifts, Mohammed described such narratives as ‘cosmetic’ and designed to weaken the PDP’s image. However, he insisted that the party had remained resilient and cohesive. “The news of people leaving the party is all cosmetic. They were created to diminish us, but they have failed,” he said.

2027: Hon Spencer Okpoye Applauds APC Delta South Unity: Backs Another Term For Tinubu, Oborevwori
In a defining moment for Delta State politics, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta South Senatorial District held its first combined meeting at Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, since the official movement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership and members in the state to the APC. The meeting drew an impressive crowd of party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, marking a new chapter of realignment and unity within the region’s political landscape. Amid the charged but celebratory atmosphere, Hon. Spencer Okpoye, Member representing the Ijaw ethnic nationality on the board of DESOPADEC, spoke to WAFFI TV at the venue, offering his full congratulations and strong words of endorsement for the party’s leadership and direction. Hon. Spencer Okpoye described the turnout at Oleh as “massive and inspiring,” underscoring it as proof of the APC’s growing strength and cohesion in Delta South. He commended the leadership of the party for organizing such an inclusive and strategic gathering, noting that the spirit of unity on display is exactly what the party needs to deliver on its promises to the people. Speaking further, Hon. Spencer firmly declared that the vote of confidence moved at the meeting in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was not only timely but entirely justified. He insisted both leaders have demonstrated uncommon capacity and vision, making them deserving of another term in office. According to him, President Tinubu’s bold reforms and commitment to economic recovery have set the nation on a new path, while Governor Oborevwori’s people-oriented governance has brought tangible development to communities across Delta State. Hon. Spencer called on all APC members and the general public to rally behind these leaders to ensure continuity, stressing that only through a united front can the party consolidate on the gains already achieved. He concluded by praising the APC Delta South leadership for showing maturity and focus, describing the Oleh meeting as a “watershed moment” that demonstrates the party’s readiness to win elections and deliver meaningful progress for all Deltans.
