Tinubu To Deliver Stable Power Before Exiting Office~ Minister
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to delivering stable and uninterrupted electricity to Nigerians before the end of his tenure. Adelabu noted that the President remains focused on implementing strategic measures to boost power generation, transmission, and distribution nationwide. This reassurance was conveyed in a statement released on Sunday by the minister’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji. It followed the commissioning of the Kwaru 1X15 MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos on Saturday. Speaking at the event, Adelabu emphasized Tinubu’s resolve to realize this objective within the lifespan of his administration—despite ongoing public outcry over persistent power outages. “The present administration in Nigeria, led by His Excellency, Mr Bola Tinubu, with the Renewed Hope Agenda, recognises that energy is not merely a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth and job creation,” the minister stated. He further explained that “to ensure the growth and sustainability of the sector, the Federal Government of Nigeria continues to implement a multi-pronged approach, which has yielded some remarkable achievements.” Beyond improving electricity supply to communities such as Abaranje, Isijola, Igando Road, Omoboriowo, Okerube, and surrounding areas, Adelabu emphasised that the project would have far-reaching benefits for Lagos State’s economy. “This initiative will reduce operational challenges caused by power shortages, provide direct support to small and medium-sized enterprises, stimulate economic growth, and create new job opportunities,” he said.

WAFCON: Coaches Deserve Equal Pay As Players~ Adeboye
In the wake of the Super Falcons’ recent victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to enhance the remuneration of football coaches. While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the generous financial rewards given to the triumphant Super Falcons, Pastor Adeboye emphasized that coaches—such as Justin Madugu—deserve equal recognition and compensation. He underscored the crucial role coaches play in shaping the success of any sports team. Pastor Adeboye made this appeal during a sermon titled “The Winning Team”, delivered at the RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service held at the Throne of Grace Parish, the church’s national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. It will be recalled that following the Falcons’ WAFCON triumph, President Tinubu announced a cash reward equivalent to $100,000 for each of the 24 players. While expressing his appreciation, Adeboye stated, “I thank the President for the gift to the Falcons. However, I don’t agree that coaches should receive less than the players. Without the coaches, the team would not succeed. God bless the coaches—we need them.” He went on to highlight the value of experience and wisdom coaches bring to the table. “Wisdom is better than strength,” he said. “You can be strong and still lose.” Recalling his own experience as a sportsman in the 1960s, Adeboye narrated how his coach pushed him and his teammates through rigorous training. “Back in 1960, I had a coach who gave us a tough time. At one point, we confronted him, wondering if we were being trained for the army. But today, I thank him. He built strength in us. He’d ask me to push a wall as if I wanted to pull it down. A good coach sees your potential and pushes you to be better.”

Only Virgins Deserve Bride Price~ Reno Omokri
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has stated that only virgins should qualify for bride price, claiming that demanding payment for non-virgins amounts to extortion. Omokri made the assertion on Sunday in a detailed post on his official X account. He argued that many Africans have confused the concepts of dowry and bride price, stressing that the two are distinct in both origin and meaning. “There is a huge difference between a dowry and a bride price “However, in this part of the world (Sub-Saharan Africa), we often use the terms interchangeably — but they are not the same. “A dowry is the money and property given to a female child on her wedding day by her parents, which she takes to her husband’s home. It becomes the joint property of both the husband and the wife. “Dowry is practised in parts of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This practice aligns with the Biblical injunction that a wife is a helper to her husband, not a burden — Genesis 2:18”, his post partly read. He contrasted this with the practice of bride price, which he said is rooted in both African culture and Jewish law, and historically applies only to virgins. “A bride price, on the other hand, is different. In African culture, as well as in Jewish tradition and law, a bride price is the money or property given by a man to the family of a virgin woman to marry her. This is backed by Exodus 22:17, which states: ‘If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.’ Similarly, among the Lukumi Yoruba, if the bride’s virginity is not confirmed on the white cloth (aso funfun) after the marriage is consummated, the marriage is not considered valid, and the bride price is returned,” he continued. He condemned the monetisation of marriage rites, especially in cases where the woman in question is no longer a virgin, stating, “The excessive demand for money and property by some Sub-Saharan African ethnicities for a woman who is not a virgin is neither legally nor technically a bride price — it is extortion.” Omokri, known for his deeply religious worldview, went further to claim that in biblicaly, the term “bride” is reserved only for virgins — citing multiple biblical references to back his claim. “Scripturally, the term ‘bride’ is never used for a woman who is not a virgin. For example, Isaiah 62:5 says: ‘For as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons shall marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so your God will rejoice over you.’ “Also, Jeremiah 2:32 reads: ‘Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire?’ These verses show that bridehood is synonymous with virginity. Song of Solomon 4:12 is even more explicit: ‘A locked up garden is my sister, my bride; a locked up spring, a sealed fountain'”, he clarified. He argued, “By African tradition and Scriptural law, a man may marry a woman who is not a virgin — but such a woman is not a bride, and no bride price should be paid for her. For instance, 1 Samuel 18:20-27 records that David paid a bride price for King Saul’s daughter, Michal. However, he did not pay any bride price for Abigail, as seen in 1 Samuel 25:40-42.” He warned that if African societies do not return to what he described as traditional and scriptural norms, they would continue to suffer the consequences of moral decay. “If we in Africa do not return to these time-honoured traditions and continue the moral decline in our society — where sex and sensuality are left unchecked — we will remain at the bottom rung of global development, plagued by high rates of sexually transmitted diseases and broken homes”, Omokri added. Concluding his post, Omokri rejected the white wedding tradition as un-African, claiming that even its original European form has been misrepresented in Africa. He said, “Lastly, the White wedding is not African culture, and it is not a Christian wedding. It is a European traditional wedding. If we must adopt that tradition, then we should follow it accurately. In Europe, where the custom originates, it is not the groom or his family that pays for the wedding. It is traditionally the bride’s father who foots the bill. Industrial Money Obtainers, I hope you have heard?”

Excitement as Oborevwori Tours Key Projects In Warri, Udu
A surge of excitement swept through Warri, Effurun, and Udu as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, embarked on an inspection tour of major infrastructure projects, including the Udu Harbour Market, Enerhen Junction Flyover, and stormwater drainage systems. The governor’s visit, part of his commitment to the *MORE Agenda*, drew large, cheering crowds—particularly traders and residents—who praised his administration for delivering visible, people-oriented development. At the Udu Harbour Market site, Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the progress. The expansive market, he noted, features 604 lock-up shops, 120 open stalls, a modern abattoir, and other supporting infrastructure, making it one of the largest markets in the state. “This market is more than just a trading hub—it’s an economic catalyst,” he said. “It will empower our people, expand local commerce, and create new income streams.” The Governor also inspected flood control systems and structural works at the Enerhen Junction Flyover. Designed to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility, the flyover is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade that includes key roads like Opete, Orhuwhorun, and Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh. Oborevwori used the opportunity to counter allegations of uneven development. “I am an Urhobo man, but I serve all Deltans. Every senatorial district is feeling the impact of our projects,” he affirmed. He emphasized that contractors are receiving timely payments, unlike in many other states. “Delta is the only state where contractors aren’t owed,” he said, urging them to maintain high standards and meet deadlines. Residents, motorists, and market women expressed joy over the ongoing developments, commending Oborevwori for prioritizing infrastructure and economic growth. At the Enerhen Junction, he lauded Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the contractor, for maintaining quality. “The ramps and fillings are completed; final asphalting will soon commence,” he revealed. Governor Oborevwori also inspected Phase III of the Airport Road/Ugborikoko/Ugboroke and Environs Flood Control Project under the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency. He reiterated his commitment to urban renewal and environmental sustainability. “Our people deserve the best. This is just the beginning. We are building a Delta that works for everyone,” he concluded.

'Stay Clear Of Warri Delineation Process' ~IYC Warns Presidency
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has issued a strong warning to the Nigerian Presidency, urging it to desist from interfering in the delineation process of wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency. In a statement signed by Comrade Nicholas Igarama (Chairman), Barr. Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo (Secretary), and Comrade Tare Magbei (Information Officer), the IYC condemned what it described as deliberate efforts to undermine electoral justice and perpetuate historical political imbalances in the constituency. The IYC claims these individuals aim to tilt the results in favour of the Itsekiri ethnic group, thereby sustaining what it described as "age-long political irregularities." According to the council, INEC is facing intense pressure to discard its recommendations in a bid to preserve an “imagined majority” for the Itsekiri nation. The IYC maintained that such actions are unjust, unpatriotic, and a direct affront to the rights of the Ijaw people in the Warri Federal Constituency. Read the full statement below: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE STEER CLEAR OFF WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY PROCESS, IYC TELLS PRESIDENCY; URGES TINUBU TO CALL CABINET MEMBERS TO ORDER The attention of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone, has been drawn to plots by certain elements within the Nigerian Presidency to frustrate the genuine efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from implementing the outcome of the delineation of wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency. These elements have made it a habitual duty to bring to nothing the efforts law-abiding individuals and ethnic nationalities have invested towards ensuring that the age-long political irregularities are brought to a rightful position. These unpatriotic elements with vested interest in the final outcome of the delineation exercise first sought for INEC to undertake a fresh exercise before seeking to alter the already proposed recommendations by the electoral umpire to favour the Itsekiri nation. We have it in good authority that INEC is under severe pressure to abandon its proposed recommendations to allow the Itsekiris to continually lay claim to a majority status that only exists in their minds and not in reality. The IYC Western Zone is aware of their plots and will not remain silent against any form of perceived injustice against Ijaws in Warri Federal Constituency or anywhere else as a matter of fact. Council, therefore, uses this medium to draw the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the plots by persons in his cabinet if allowed to manifest, could lead to a breakdown of law and order in Warri and environs. We declare that Ijaws will not tolerate any form of oppression from unscrupulous elements within the presidency, who are trying to midwife chaos in Warri Federal Constituency. We will stand up to what is our right and vehemently oppose any move to undo the already established report of INEC as regards the Ward Delineation exercise. The IYC Western Zone also calls on President Tinubu to urgently swing into action by prevailing on INEC to respect the rule of law and implement the ward delineation report. Lastly, we wish to unequivocally call on INEC to implement the Ward Delineation Report before commencing the continuous voters registration exercise, as the former wards and units are now obsolete going by the Supreme Court Judgment. Signed: Comrade Nicholas Igarama Chairman, IYC Western Zone Barr. Ebi Joshua Olowolayemo Secretary, IYC Western Zone Comr. Tare Magbei Information Officer, IYC Western Zone

NANNM Suspends Warning Strike After Reaching Agreement With FG
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its seven-day warning strike, four days after it began. NANNM National President, Haruna Mamman, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, stating that the decision followed an emergency virtual meeting of the association’s National Executive Council. During the meeting, members reviewed the memorandum of understanding signed with the Federal Government. Mamman noted that the government has now committed to a time-bound implementation of all nine critical demands tabled by the union. The suspension comes a day after the association’s leadership met with a Federal Government team led by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate. Following the meeting, Pate confirmed that the nurses and midwives had agreed to end the strike. Earlier, nurses and midwives under the union had embarked on a warning strike beginning July 29, 2025, in protest of the government's failure to respond to a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14. On Thursday, the National Chairman of NANNM’s Federal Health Institutions Sector, Morakinyo-Olajide Rilwan, outlined the union’s demands, including the official gazetting of the scheme of service for nurses, improved allowances, introduction of specialty allowances, recruitment of additional nurses, better remuneration, and the creation of a dedicated department for nursing within the Federal Ministry of Health. Amid the industrial action, Labour Minister Muhammadu Dingyadi had appealed for restraint, urging the association to consider other dispute resolution mechanisms, stating that strikes were not the best approach. The strike significantly disrupted services at public health institutions nationwide, leaving many patients stranded and paralyzing operations at government-owned hospitals.

We Haven’t Called Off Strike~ Nurses Refute Minnister’s Claim
Despite claims by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, that nurses in public hospitals have called off their warning strike, the nurses have refuted the statement, maintaining that the strike is still in progress. Speaking on behalf of the union, Omomo Tibiebi, National Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Federal Health Institutions sector (NANNM-FHI), emphasized that the industrial action, which began last Wednesday, has not been suspended. “The strike has not been suspended,” Tibiebi said. “Earlier today, NANNM executives held a meeting with the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, and it was the minister who went to the press to claim the strike had been called off. “But he wasn’t the one who called the strike in the first place, so he has no right to declare it suspended. The strike is still on.” He further disclosed that the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) would convene on Saturday to assess the Federal Government’s offers and decide the next line of action. “There will be a NEC meeting tomorrow (Saturday), and that’s when a decision will be made. We will then determine if what the Federal Government has prom The nurses commenced the warning strike last Wednesday to push for a range of demands, including an upward review of shift allowances, a revision of uniform allowances, and the implementation of a separate salary structure tailored for nurses. Additional demands include an increase in core duty allowances, large-scale recruitment of nursing personnel, and the establishment of a dedicated nursing department within the Federal Ministry of Health.

Activist Mulade Calls For Unity, Development Among Ethnic Groups
Prominent Delta State peace advocate and environmental rights activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has urged the major ethnic groups in the state to set aside their differences and embrace unity and development for the collective good of all Deltans. Speaking as a United Nations Peace Ambassador and National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Mulade appealed specifically to the Urhobo, Itsekiri, and Ijaw ethnic groups—describing them as the economic backbone of the state—to stop engaging in divisive actions that repel investors and hinder progress. “We cannot afford to keep fighting one another, resisting development initiatives, or driving away potential investors who could create employment opportunities for our youths simply because of personal or ethnic interests,” he said. Mulade called on traditional rulers and political leaders to rise above parochial sentiments and foster a culture of peace and collaboration that will move the state forward. He affirmed that both the federal government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the state administration, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, are committed to driving development by attracting investments and expanding infrastructure. “The efforts of both governments are visible through ongoing state and federal projects aimed at positioning Delta as an investment hub,” Mulade noted. He further stressed the importance of unity among the state’s three major ethnic groups, urging them to play proactive roles in supporting government efforts. “Delta State is richly endowed with both human and natural resources. Instead of internal strife, let’s channel our collective strengths to support Governor Oborevwori and President Tinubu so that our people can fully enjoy the dividends of democracy,” Mulade concluded.
