In a statement issued in Asaba on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori praised Otuaro for his dedicated service and significant contributions to the success of the ‘Smart Agenda’ and ‘Stronger Delta’ programs during the previous administration. The Governor highlighted Otuaro’s instrumental role in fostering peace and stability in the Niger Delta, particularly through his leadership of the Peace Advocacy Committee Against Oil Facility Vandalism, which had a major impact on boosting oil production both in the state and nationally. “In recognition of your vital role, you were deservedly honoured with the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award in 2019 by Daily Independent Newspapers Limited,” Oborevwori noted. "On behalf of my family, the government, and the good people of Delta State, I congratulate you, my dear brother and former Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, Esq., as you mark your 57th birth anniversary. Rivers Administrator Threatens Legal Action To Recover N300m From NBA
The Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has dismissed claims by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) that a ₦300 million payment from the state was merely a “gift” unrelated to the hosting rights for the NBA’s 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC). Responding to the NBA’s decision to relocate the 2025 AGC from Port Harcourt to Enugu, the Administrator condemned the move as “unethical” and “a breach of trust.” In a statement released on Tuesday through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Hector Igbikiowubo, the Administrator emphasized that the payment was made based on a clear and mutual agreement that Rivers State would host the prestigious event. “The Rivers State Government entered into this arrangement with the NBA in good faith, with the understanding that hosting the conference would attract significant economic benefits to our state and directly impact the businesses of our people,” the statement read. He expressed dismay over what he called the NBA’s “unilateral” decision to move the event, warning that failure to refund the ₦300 million would leave the state with no choice but to initiate legal action to recover the funds. “We reaffirm our willingness to engage in partnerships with all professional bodies, including the NBA, but we will not accommodate exploitation of our people and the Rivers State Government,” the statement concluded. He urged the NBA to act swiftly to resolve the matter and avoid unnecessary legal confrontation.

Nigeria Loses $2bn Annually To Medical Tourism~ FG
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, has revealed that Nigeria loses approximately $2 billion annually to medical tourism. He emphasized the urgent need for the country to achieve health sovereignty and reduce dependence on foreign medical care. According to Pate, represented by Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH)—the massive outflow is driven by low confidence in the local healthcare system and limited access to quality care. Speaking at the commissioning of Avon Medical Centre, a 50-bed specialty hospital in Surulere, Lagos, Pate expressed hope that such facilities would help reverse the trend. He also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to revitalizing the health sector through initiatives like the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the 2024–2027 Health Sector Strategic Blueprint. His words: “This is not just about stopping medical tourism. It is about building health sovereignty, the ability of a country to care for its people, and develop its institutions, talent, and innovation. “The government stands ready to co-create pathways for private-sector engagement, be it through health insurance expansion, regulatory reform, or partnerships with national health programmes. We welcome Avon Medical and all new private providers to come alongside us as partners in building a healthier, safer, and more equitable Nigeria.”
