Senate Pledges To Closely Track Ibas’ N1.48trn Rivers Budget
The Nigerian Senate has pledged to rigorously oversee the disbursement and execution of the N1.48 trillion budget presented by the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), in line with its oversight duties under the current emergency rule in the state. During a budget defence session at the National Assembly on Thursday, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Chairman of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Emergency Governance in Rivers State, assured citizens that the legislature would ensure every naira in the 2025 Appropriation Bill translates into real, measurable outcomes. “This goes beyond scrutinizing numbers,” Bamidele stated. “We are accountable to the Nigerian people to guarantee that every allocated fund is utilized efficiently—project by project, sector by sector—so that the people of Rivers State truly benefit, especially during this period of emergency governance.” He emphasized that the committee's work would not end with the defence session, adding that continuous monitoring and performance evaluations would be conducted in the months ahead to promote transparency, ensure timely implementation, and maximize value for public funds. “We’ll be assessing not just the disbursements but also timelines, delivery benchmarks, and outcomes. The goal is simple: ensure that the 2025 budget translates into better roads, improved healthcare, quality education, security, and livelihoods for the people of Rivers State,” he said. The Senate Leader also used the session to clarify misconceptions surrounding the federal government’s emergency rule in Rivers State. He stated that the temporary measure, declared by President Bola Tinubu, is not a substitute for democratic governance but a constitutional intervention aimed at restoring stability. “For the record, emergency rule is not a replacement for democracy,” Bamidele said. “It is a lawful and constitutionally backed response to restore peace and order when governance is under threat, as stipulated in Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution.”

I See World War III Coming~ Ben Murray~Bruce
Ben Murray-Bruce, founder of the Silverbird Group, has warned that World War III appears inevitable, citing escalating global violence, the spread of nuclear weapons, and the rise of aggressive world leaders. Speaking in an interview with Global Affairs Expert Dane Waters on Tuesday, Murray-Bruce predicted that the conflict would cause widespread destruction across much of the world. However, he expressed confidence that Africa—especially Nigeria—would remain largely unaffected. He attributed this to Nigeria’s non-nuclear stance and commitment to peaceful diplomacy, which he believes would protect the region from the war’s impact. He said, “We’re in big trouble, and as long as we have the kind of leaders we have in the world today, I see World War Three coming, and it’s going to be terrible. “The beauty of World War III is that it’s not going to affect Africa. Africa will be spared. You guys are going to fight all across the world, but we are going to be safe in Nigeria. “Nobody is going to be fighting in Nigeria because we have no territorial ambitions, we have no desire to acquire nuclear weapons, we don’t want to fight anybody, we’re friends with all our West African neighbours.” According to Murray-Bruce, Nigeria would be in a position to welcome displaced populations from the West. He said, “There’s going to be a World War III, the rest of the world will be destroyed, and we’ll be happy to welcome Americans, Israelis and Iranians to Nigeria. “And we’ll make sure you all have your visas to come here because we don’t want you to come as immigrants and we don’t want to treat you very badly when you come here but we’re going to treat you well when you come visit us in Nigeria.” The former lawmaker, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District, declared that the world is in trouble because of many ‘crazy people in leadership positions across the world. “I think we are in trouble. I think there’s too much violence in the world today. I think access to weapons is easy. I think we have a lot of trigger-happy leaders across the world, and because they are trigger-happy, they don’t care. “We have a lot of despots and crazy people. So, war is inevitable. It goes back to 1945, 1939, and 1917. First world war, second world war, Korean war, Vietnam war. “I think there are many crazy people in the world and as long as we elect crazy people into leadership positions, this is what we’re going to have because it’s the leaders that cause the war not the people.” Murray-Bruce’s comments come amid the growing conflict between Iran and Israel.

Governors Agree To Dismantle Illegal Road Blocks, Multiple Taxes
The 36 state governors in Nigeria have unanimously agreed to remove illegal roadblocks and eliminate multiple taxation practices nationwide. This decision was reached during a meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) held in Abuja, which concluded early Thursday. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who delivered the communiqué at the end of the meeting, stated that the governors identified these illegal practices as major contributors to the rising cost of food across the country. The communique was signed by NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. “The Forum received a briefing from the National Security Adviser (NSA), accompanied by the Honourable Ministers of Defence, Agriculture, Livestock Development, and Transportation, on the rising cost of food and livestock transportation across the country. “The presentation revealed that the proliferation of checkpoints, illegal taxation, and poor infrastructure are key contributors to price inflation and inefficiencies in the food supply chain. “The NSA noted that a high-level inter-ministerial committee has been established to address these concerns and has submitted its recommendations for the endorsement of the Forum. “Governors acknowledged the urgency of the matter and expressed commitment to collaborate with federal authorities to streamline levies, dismantle unauthorized checkpoints, and improve the movement of goods across states.”
