Delayed Salaries: ASUU Invokes No~Pay, No~Work Policy On FG
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has activated a no-pay-no-work policy against the Federal Government over the continued delay in paying its members' salaries. ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, revealed this during an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday. Piwuna accused the government of deliberately attempting to frustrate union members following their withdrawal from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS). The Federal Government had earlier announced the exclusion of both academic and non-academic staff of higher institutions from the controversial IPPIS platform, which ASUU and other academic unions have repeatedly criticized. Speaking with our correspondent, Piwuna said, “Since the departure from IPPIS, the salaries of lecturers have consistently been delayed. We don’t get paid the way other workers get paid. It is either we are paid 10 days into a new month. With the economic challenges in the country, it has not been easy for our members. “Look at June now, we have not been paid, our members can’t celebrate Sallah properly. So, we have now resolved that since the government want to delay our salaries, we can’t continue to teach. We want to teach but we can’t teach without our salaries. We have decided to invoke the no-pay-no-work policy. “Branches have started to adopt. What this means is that lecturers boycott classes pending the time that salaries are paid.” Also speaking on behalf of non-academic staff, the National President of the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions, Mohammed Ibrahim, berated the government over the continuous delay. He said, “Last month, we had to write a series of letters asking why our salaries were not released. No explanation was given. “University workers are simply treated like second-class citizens. Remember, we have written to the Accountant General of the Federation and copied the ministers of education and labour. The labour ministry wrote to us to say that they have reached out to the minister of education, but you can see that nothing has changed this month either.”

PAP Administrator Otuaro Targeted For Resisting Manipulation By Selfish Leaders~ IPDI
The Ijaw People's Development Initiative (IPDI) has condemned recent attempts to sow discord between the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Chief Dennis Brutu Otuaro, PhD, and the Amayanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, HRM Ateke Tom, describing such efforts as malicious and unfounded. This reaction follows unverified reports from some online platforms alleging a confrontation between Dr. Otuaro and HRM Ateke Tom during the monarch’s recent birthday celebration. In a swift response, IPDI President, Comrade Ozobo Austin, debunked the claims, stating categorically that no confrontation occurred. According to him, both leaders shared warm moments during the event, which reflected their mutual respect and collaborative spirit. Ozobo praised Dr. Otuaro’s performance as PAP Administrator, noting his unwavering commitment to peace, reintegration, and sustainable development in the Niger Delta. He highlighted Otuaro’s advocacy for improved stipends for ex-agitators and inclusion of impacted communities in the programme. IPDI urged the public to ignore the false narratives being spread and instead recognize the positive strides being made by the current PAP leadership. The group stressed the need for collective support to strengthen the ongoing peace and development efforts in the region. They cautioned stakeholders, ex-agitators, and leaders not to fall for divisive tactics by those who feel threatened by the progress under Otuaro’s leadership. "Dr. Otuaro remains a key figure in maintaining stability and fostering development in the Niger Delta," Ozobo said. "Rumors of a rift with HRM Ateke Tom are baseless and driven by individuals with selfish interests who are frustrated by Otuaro’s refusal to be manipulated." He added that the cordial relationship between Otuaro and the respected traditional ruler remains intact, and both continue to work in synergy for the region’s progress. The group reiterated that under Otuaro’s leadership, PAP has successfully empowered ex-agitators through education, skills training, and reintegration, significantly reducing violence and improving socio-economic conditions in the region. Ozobo concluded by emphasizing that those opposed to this progress are fabricating stories to derail the administration’s achievements. “We must not let the enemies of the Niger Delta succeed in creating division. Let us stay united and continue supporting Otuaro in his mission to bring lasting peace and development to our region,” he said.

Trump And Musk In Stunning Public Divorce
The unexpected alliance between Donald Trump and Elon Musk came to a dramatic end Thursday, as the U.S. president and his billionaire former aide turned on each other in a fiery and very public fallout. In a televised address from the Oval Office, Trump said he was “very disappointed” by Musk’s harsh criticism of a major spending bill, one the president described as “big and beautiful.” He even went as far as threatening to cancel Musk’s multi-billion-dollar contracts with the U.S. government. Musk quickly fired back, saying Trump wouldn’t have won the 2024 election without his support. He took to his X platform to accuse the president of “ingratitude.” As tensions soared, Musk posted that Trump “is in the Epstein files” — a reference to unsealed U.S. government documents involving disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in jail while awaiting trial for sex crimes. Tesla stock took a major hit amid the drama, dropping nearly 15% and wiping out over \$100 billion in market value. Speculation had long lingered over how sustainable the partnership was between the world’s richest man and the most powerful. That question was put to rest when Trump addressed Musk’s critique of the bill — which Musk had labeled a “disgusting abomination.” “I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot,” Trump said as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz looked on during the tense Oval Office press briefing. “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.” His remarks came just days after Trump gave Musk a high-profile farewell from his leadership role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a cost-cutting agency Musk headed. In what sounded more like a personal lament than a policy discussion, Trump reflected on the breakup with visible frustration. He even suggested Musk might be suffering from “Trump derangement system,” was bitter about leaving the White House, and had grown “hostile” since his exit. Such ingratitude.” Musk then posted a poll on whether he should form a new political party — a possible threat to Republican support, even if the foreign-born tycoon himself is barred from becoming president under the US Constitution. As the row moved to social media, Trump doubled down by threatening Musk’s massive government contracts, including for launching rockets and for the use of the Starlink satellite service. US media have put the value of the contracts at $18 billion. “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform, adding that Musk had gone “crazy” about a plan to end electric vehicle subsidies in the spending bill. He then dropped the bombshell: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.” Trump’s decision to tap Musk to head DOGE was one of the most controversial of his second presidency. Musk’s young “tech bros” cut tens of thousands of government jobs and slashed US foreign aid. Trump and Musk’s whirlwind relationship initially blossomed, with the tech tycoon appearing in the Oval Office with his young son on his shoulders, flying with Trump aboard Air Force One and staying at the White House and Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. But the 53-year-old lasted just four months on the job, becoming increasingly disillusioned with Washington’s slow pace, while clashing with some of Trump’s cabinet members. The only winner from the public Trump-Musk spat? Germany’s Merz. Merz, who sat mutely while Trump bashed Musk, had prepared to avoid a repeat of the ambushes that Trump unleashed on the Ukrainian and South African presidents in the Oval Office. But in the end it was Musk who took the president’s fire.

Don’t Listen To People, Give Us More Money For Projects, Works Minister Tells Tinubu
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to disregard critics and increase funding for ongoing infrastructure projects nationwide, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Umahi made the appeal on Thursday at the official commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos. He stated that international financiers have endorsed the project, even considering it to be undervalued. “I want to assure you, sir, that the international financiers have given you kudos because they say the project is even undervalued. I commend you very highly, and I am grateful for the support. “Sir, don’t listen to people. Give us more money; we will deliver all these projects, sir. We will deliver,” Umahi stated. His comments come following criticism over the cost and transparency of the “ambitious” 700km Lagos-Calabar highway project. Addressing the president directly, Umahi defended the project’s valuation and highlighted the technical complexities involved in its construction. “This highway… tell me the cost of a kilometre. What can you quantify as the cost of a kilometre when you have a section of 10km that has a bit of 10 to 20 metres and you compare it to another section with good soil?” he said. “When people gather counsel without knowledge… Your Excellency, I am a Fellow of the Society of Engineers, and I understand the figures; I understand this work.” The minister also expressed confidence in the timely delivery of the highway’s initial phase. “I want to thank you for commissioning the first 30km, and I reassure you that this first section will be completed by December. We shall toll it, and Section 2 will also be close to completion. I commend the contractor very highly.”

I’m Very Disappointed In Musk~ Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong disappointment Thursday over Elon Musk’s criticism of his major policy bill, admitting uncertainty about the future of their friendship. In a striking outburst from the Oval Office, with visiting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz silently seated beside him, Trump launched into a tirade against Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla — marking his first public remarks on the controversy. “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. I was surprised,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office after former advisor Musk slammed the bill as an “abomination”. “I’m very disappointed, because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here… All of a sudden, he had a problem,” Trump added. Musk hit back minutes later on his X social network, saying the 78-year-old president’s claims he had advance sight of the bill were “false.” “Whatever,” he added above a video of Trump saying Musk was upset about the loss of subsidies for electric vehicles. The latest clash comes less than a week since Trump held a grand Oval Office farewell for Musk as he wrapped up his time leading the cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk stunned reporters at the time by turning up with a black eye that he said was caused by his son. “You saw a man who was very happy when he stood behind the Oval desk, and even with the black eye. I said, you want a little makeup? We’ll get you a little makeup,” Trump said. “But he said, ‘No, I don’t think so,’ which is interesting and very nice. He wants to be who he is.” Trump said he could understand why Musk was upset with some steps he had taken, including withdrawing a nominee to lead the NASA space agency whom the tech tycoon had backed. The US president’s “big, beautiful bill” on tax and spending — the centerpiece of his domestic agenda — could define his second term and make or break Republican prospects in the 2026 midterm elections. Musk however called it a “disgusting abomination” on Tuesday. A day later, the magnate called for Republicans to “kill the bill,” and for an alternative plan that “doesn’t massively grow the deficit.”
