We’re Making Farming More Sexy To Youths~ Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that his administration is delivering on its commitment to transform Nigeria into a global agricultural powerhouse. Speaking at the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme in Abuja on Monday, Tinubu emphasized that ongoing reforms are designed to make farming more appealing to the youth. “We now have over 2,000 state-of-the-art tractors, 50 heavy-duty land preparation bulldozers, 12 fully equipped mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 specialized farming implements,” he stated. “This equipment, when deployed will empower mechanisation and service providers, create job opportunities, and make farming easy and more sexy for our young ones. “You don’t have to use an 18th-century method for a 21st-century agricultural farming implement,” he said. The President also said that the Federal Governemnt was working with international partners to empower the youths with skills in modern agriculture for financial self-dependence. He explained that his administration’s strategy encompassed year-round cultivation, drastically reducing Nigeria’s historical vulnerabilities and seasonal shortages. He said, “We have friends across the world. We have Belarus committed to a programme that will empower our youths, teach them how to do things, get them off the street, empower them in technology, review mechanisation, and empower them in machine repairs and fabrication. “The allocation of this equipment throughout the country will do a lot. Given our nation’s arable land and favourable climate that we have, we must seize the opportunity to achieve complete agricultural independence and food sovereignty.”

US Attack: Russia Will Support Iranian People~ Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday condemned the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran, calling them unjustified and expressing Moscow’s continued support for the Iranian people. He made the remarks during a meeting in Moscow with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, held just two days after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered attacks on Iran’s three primary nuclear sites. “The aggression against Iran was unprovoked and lacks any justification,” Putin said in televised comments. “We are committed to assisting the Iranian people, and I’m pleased you are here today in Moscow. This gives us an opportunity to discuss the current crisis and explore solutions together.” Araqchi, in response, described Iran’s actions as legitimate self-defence and expressed gratitude for Russia’s condemnation of the strikes. He also delivered well wishes from Iran’s supreme leader and president, stating, “Russia stands today on the right side of history and international law.” Despite offering diplomatic backing, it remains uncertain what specific measures Moscow might take in support of Tehran. The bilateral strategic cooperation treaty signed in January does not include provisions for mutual defence. Before the attacks, Russia had warned that any U.S. military intervention could destabilise the Middle East and provoke serious consequences. When asked about potential support for Iran, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “It depends on Iran’s needs,” adding that Moscow’s willingness to mediate should be seen as a form of assistance. Peskov strongly criticised the U.S. strikes, noting a new phase of regional escalation. “There’s now an increase in the number of actors involved in this conflict,” he said. “We deeply regret this development and unequivocally condemn the attack.” He also voiced concern about possible radiation risks at the targeted nuclear sites and confirmed that President Trump did not provide Putin with prior detailed information about the strikes.

Iran Threatens US Bases In Response To Strikes On Nuclear Sites
Iran issued a warning on Sunday, threatening to target US military bases in the Middle East following large-scale airstrikes that Washington claimed had dismantled Tehran’s nuclear program—though some officials noted the full extent of the damage remained uncertain. The international community expressed growing concern that the unprecedented US strikes could escalate tensions in the already volatile region, particularly after Israel launched its own bombing campaign against Iran earlier this month. Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that US bases could face retaliatory attacks. “Any country in the region or elsewhere that is used by American forces to strike Iran will be considered a legitimate target for our armed forces,” he said in a message carried by the official IRNA news agency. “America has attacked the heart of the Islamic world and must await irreparable consequences.” President Donald Trump urged Iran to end the conflict after he launched surprise “bunker buster” strikes on a key underground uranium enrichment site at Fordo, along with nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz. “We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the ‘bomb’ right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!)” he said on social media. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told a Pentagon press briefing that Iran’s nuclear program had been “devastated,” adding the operation “did not target Iranian troops or the Iranian people.” Standing beside Hegseth, top US general Dan Caine said “it would be way too early for me to comment on what may or may not still be there.” “Initial battle damage assessments indicate that all three sites sustained extremely severe damage and destruction.” Tehran protests As Iran’s leaders struck a defiant tone, President Masoud Pezeshkian also vowed that the United States would “receive a response” to the attacks. People gathered Sunday in central Tehran to protest against US and Israeli attacks, waving flags and chanting slogans. In the province of Semnan east of the capital, Samireh, a 46-year-old housewife, told AFP she was “truly shocked” by the strikes as Trump had said he would decide his next move within two weeks. “Semnan province is very far from the nuclear facilities targeted, but I’m very concerned for the people who live near,” she said. In an address to the nation hours after the attack, Trump claimed total success for the operation, and Vice President JD Vance followed up on Sunday morning. “We know that we set the Iranian nuclear program back substantially last night,” Vance told ABC. But he also suggested Iran still had its highly enriched uranium. “We’re going to work in the coming weeks to ensure that we do something with that fuel,” he said. “They no longer have the capacity to turn that stockpile of highly enriched uranium to weapons-grade uranium.” Another Khamenei advisor, Ali Shamkhani, said in a post on X that “even if nuclear sites are destroyed, game isn’t over, enriched materials, indigenous knowledge, political will remain.” Rafael Grossi, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council that craters were visible at the Fordo facility, but no one had been able to assess the underground damage. He added that attacks on nuclear facilities could cause radiation leaks but the IAEA had not detected any increases. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prayed for Trump at the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Sunday, after hailing the strikes as a move that would “change history.” Retaliation risk Israel’s military was also checking the results of the US raid on the deeply buried nuclear facility in Fordo, with a spokesman saying it was uncertain if Iran had already removed enriched uranium from the site. The main US strike group was seven B-2 Spirit bombers that flew 18 hours from the American mainland to Iran, Caine said. In response to the attack, which used over a dozen massive “bunker buster” bombs, Iran’s armed forces targeted sites in Israel including Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv, with at least 23 people wounded. At least nine members of the Revolutionary Guards were killed Sunday in Israeli attacks on central Iran, local media reported, as fighting between the two foes continued. The United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman, which had been mediating Iran-US nuclear talks, criticized the US strikes and called for de-escalation, while United Nations chief Antonio Guterres warned of a cycle of retaliation. Iran’s Huthi allies in Yemen on Sunday repeated their threat to resume attacks in the Red Sea if Washington joined the war, saying they were ready to target US ships. AFP

Trump Gives Iran Two Weeks To Avoid US Airstrikes
Former President Donald Trump on Friday warned that Iran had no more than two weeks to avert potential U.S. airstrikes, suggesting he might act even sooner than the deadline he set just a day earlier. Trump also made it clear he had no intention of restraining Israel’s military actions against Iran, saying Israel was "winning." He further dismissed European diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, signaling a lack of confidence in their mediation. “I’m giving them a period of time, and I would say two weeks would be the maximum,” Trump told reporters when asked if he could decide to strike Iran before that. He added that the aim was to “see whether or not people come to their senses.” Trump had said in a statement on Thursday that he would “make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks” because there was a “substantial chance of negotiations” with Iran. Those comments had been widely seen as opening a two-week window for negotiations to end the war between Israel and Iran, with the European powers rushing to talks with Tehran. But his latest remarks indicated Trump could still make his decision before that if he feels that there has been no progress towards dismantling Iran’s nuclear program. Trump meanwhile dismissed talks that European powers Britain, France, Germany and the EU had with Iran’s foreign minister in Geneva on Friday. Europe ‘didn’t help’ “They didn’t help,” he said as he arrived in Morristown, New Jersey, ahead of a fundraising dinner at his nearby golf club. “Iran doesn’t want to speak to Europe. They want to speak to us. Europe is not going to be able to help in this.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said after the talks in Geneva that Tehran would not resume negotiations with the United States until Israel stopped its attacks. But Trump was reluctant. “It’s very hard to make that request right now,” Trump said. “If somebody’s winning, it’s a little bit harder to do than if somebody’s losing, but we’re ready, willing and able, and we’ve been speaking to Iran, and we’ll see what happens.” Trump meanwhile doubled down on his claims that Iran is weeks away from being able to produce a nuclear bomb, despite divisions in his own administration about the intelligence behind his assessment. Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s director of national intelligence, said in a report in March that Iran was not close to having enough enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon. “She’s wrong,” Trump said of Gabbard, a longtime opponent of US foreign intervention whom Trump tapped to coordinate the sprawling US spy community. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

Reps Clear Togo, Probe Fake Degree Syndicate In Benin Republic
The House of Representatives has cleared the Republic of Togo of any involvement in the issuance of fake academic certificates, a scandal that previously shook Nigeria’s education sector. Meanwhile, the House Committee on Public Petitions has shifted its focus to the Republic of Benin, where a suspected certificate forgery syndicate is reportedly thriving. Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Bitrus Laori, revealed this during a resumed investigative hearing in Abuja on Friday. The session followed a petition submitted by Sovereign Legal Practitioners on behalf of key education stakeholders. The petition challenges the Federal Ministry of Education’s blanket statement made last year, which accused both Togo and Benin of being complicit in academic fraud. Laori noted that recent diplomatic investigations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have exonerated Togo, reaffirming the legitimacy and credibility of its academic institutions. “The Republic of Togo has been cleared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The outstanding issue remains with the Republic of Benin,” Laori stated. The committee has fixed Thursday, July 10, 2025, for a fresh hearing on the Benin Republic following a formal adjournment prompted by the absence of the lawyer representing the petitioners. Similarly, the Committee also summoned the Federal Ministry of Education to appear before it and provide clarity on its 2024 directive regarding pre-qualification exams for foreign degree holders. “This matter is adjourned to July 10, and we are issuing another summons to the Federal Ministry of Education. We need clarification on the pre-qualification examinations being imposed on graduates from the Benin Republic, which is currently affecting hundreds of Nigerian students and graduates,” Laori said. The development comes in the wake of a high-profile sting operation in late 2024, during which a Nigerian undercover journalist uncovered a thriving certificate-for-sale racket in the Benin Republic. The exposé triggered nationwide outrage and prompted swift intervention by the federal government. As a result, numerous civil servants were dismissed for possessing degrees issued by unaccredited private universities in both Togo and the Benin Republic between 2017 and 2024. With Togo now officially exonerated, the spotlight has shifted solely to the Benin Republic.
